The second night of our hill climb predict your time, time trial up the old sweep had a larger turnout than previous so thanks to all the brave souls who sweated up the hill.  We had 3 people within 5 seconds and one more under 10 which is remarkably close (lots of runs up the sweep during the week i think).  Congratulations to Jason Travers who was the winner on the night being out by only 2 seconds, next up our recent summer series winner Sean Dwyer out by 3 seconds, normally good enough to win on any other night, next was Ritchie Power out by 5 seconds.  The challenge is on, to be closer than 2 seconds next week who will rise to the challenge.  Thanks to Mark Power and Pat O'Driscoll for co-ordinating our cyclists and time keeping.

This 30 strong group was made up of approximately half regular club cyclist and half non-club members and newcomers. There were two spins a 50mile and a 30-mile decided on giving cyclists plenty of options. The 50-mile spin went to Cappoquin, Lismore, Tallow, Camphire and home through Cappoquin. THE SEAN KELLY TOUR

The Sean Kelly tour took place on Sunday the 24th of August last and amazingly the weather was good for the event. A massive number over 1800 riders took to the start line and Dungarvan Cycling Club was well represented with over 30 riders taken on a variety of the three different routes that were arranged as part of the overall event.

The 50 km Kelly Cruise was accessible to most people who do some regular cycling and some club members used this as a way to introduce there families to the sport they love. The 100 km Kelly Legacy was tough but suitable for the experienced touring cyclist and a number of our members took up this challenge. Finally the 160km Kelly Comeragh Challenge was the route that the majority of club members took and thanks to some long training spins over the last number of weeks all got over this extremely difficult challenge with ease. Dungarvan Cycling Club would like to thank Waterford County Council and it’s organising committee for organising such a great event in the town. We are sure that due to the success of this event more people will take to cycling regularly.

WEEKEND SPINS

The weekend spin this week was The Sean Kelly Tour.

Weekend spins will revert to the normal John Foley’s Kilrush on Saturday and the Square on Sunday, both at 9.30am from next week on.

GER WYLEY SPONSERED PREDICT YOUR TIME HILL CLIMB COMPETITION WEEK 4 RESULTS

Week 4 of the hill climb predict your time competition took place last Wednesday on another blustery evening on the old sweep. Nine riders took on the challenge and the winner was Frank Browne at just 3 seconds out on his predicted time. Frank is riding very well at the moment and I’m sure is now looking forward to next weeks Sean Kelly tour. Second place on the night went to Enda Donnelly fresh from his holidays he climbed the hill in 6 minutes 34 seconds. Third place went to Jason Travers at 6 seconds out he climbed the hill in a great time of 7 minutes 36 seconds. Thanks to Pat, Sean and Keith for the timekeeping again on the night and a big thanks to Ger Wyley for his kind sponsorship.

Week 3 of the hill climb predict your time, time trial up the old sweep was a blustery affair, no matter where you were there seemed to be a wind buffeting you (either that or my legs were gone) so well done to all who participated.  Winner on the night was Sean Dwyer - a consistent winner theses days - who got his time spot on, next was Ritchie Power, out by 1 second, he must wonder what he has to do to win, in third we had super vet Ray dwyer with the fatest time of the night but out by 3 seconds.  Thanks has to go to Pat and Mark for the timekeeping again tonight

23/07/08

Wednesdy night was the start of out hill climb predict your time, time trial up the old sweep.  It has to be said that it was a very dissapointing turnout with only eight riders lining up, but their enthusiasm well made up for their lack in numbers.  It was like an alpine stage of the tour, looking up the mighty sweep you could see the mist at the top as the peak broke the clouds, well maybe not that dramatic but hey, we live in the sunny south east (or so I'm told).

Frank (Carlos Sastre) Browne was closest to his predicted time being only out by 9 seconds, next was a relative newcomer to cycling Jason (Samuel Sanchez) Travers out by 11 seconds and in third we had Davy (Andy Schleck) Tobin out by 17seconds.

Thanks very much to Ger Wyley for kindly sponsoring this event and to Pat and Damian for the timekeeping.

It would be much appreciated if we could have a larger turnout next week, the group went for a training spin after the hill climb, details unknown at this time
