LIAM ROSSITER INDIVIDUAL PREDICT YOUR TIME COMPETION

A turnout of 15 riders was good for the fourth week of the Liam Rossiter Meats Individual "Predict Your Time" Competition. It was another breezy Wednesday night but we are getting used to them at this stage. It was good to see another new face and we would all like to welcome Pa Power to the ranks. It was thought predictions couldn’t get much better than the previous weeks but Tony O’Mahony & Frank Browne proved us wrong with both riders hitting their predicted times spot on. Third on the night was Damian Travers at 18 seconds out. Next Wednesday is the last night of this 5-week competition and looking at the overall tables any of up to 7 riders could take the overall prize but Dzintar’s Klava would have to be the bookies favourite.

O’MAHONY CYCLES AND NURSERY SUMMER SERIES GETS UNDERWAY NEXT WEEK

O’MAHONY CYCLES AND NURSERY SUMMER SERIES GETS UNDERWAY NEXT WEEK

The annual Summer Series gets underway on Wednesday next, the 7th May for eight weeks. It is held over the Mill Street circuit, which is 40km in length. This is a handicap event with points awarded each week for the first five places and each finisher getting points as well. This means once again that consistency is important with regular finishers being rewarded even if they are not amongst the places. The handicapping last year was so accurate that the final result was not decided until the last night where Colin Organ was declared the overall winner.

Thanks to Siobhan and Tony O’Mahony for their kind sponsorship.
WEEKEND SPINS

Weekend spins continue to be well supported. Sunday saw the group head to Lismore, Ballyduff, Tallow, Camphire and home through Cappoquin.

Out cycling were Frank Browne, Frank O’Rourke, Ray Dwyer, John Flynn, Siobhan Dunphy, Sean Dwyer, Brett Lynam, Pádraig de Búrca, Vincent Feeny, Enda Donnelly, Colin Organ, Pat O’Driscoll, Davey Tobin, John Seward and Liam Rossitor.

Weekend spins will continue to meet at John Foley’s Kilrush on Saturday and the Square on Sunday, both at 9.30am.

18/04/08

Good to see 2 more new faces this week for the Liam Rossiter "Predict Your Time" Time Trial, Jason Travers and Ed Kelly.  For this league it is your best 4 times that count so that you can miss one night and still be in the running, the table is really starting to shape up now.  Once again the actual times of the winners were very close to the predicted times, With Benny and Colin being 4 and 7 seconds out respectively , on their new bikes, (conspiracy theories may be forwarded on to myself) and with our domiciled Oz doc Brett in third, out only by 8 seconds.  There was a good tail wind all the way out to the Whitechuch turn but you paid for it coming back the Bog road with the severe head wind, a lot of slower times this week.  Once again thanks to timekeepers and photographers Enda and Padraig, good to see Enda is giving it a shot next week.  Two more weeks to go, check the combined times in the 2008 folder "Whitechurch PYT".

DUNGARVAN CYCLING CLUB RACING TEAM UPDATE

Frank O’Rourke Memorial Camross County Wexford

Four riders headed to Camross on Sunday for the Silver Pail GP, Damian Travers, Keith Walsh, Keith Radley and Maurice Hickey.

It was 4 laps of a 14mile circuit with a small climb after about 1 mile from the start and then a drag into a headwind once on to the main Wexford road.

The race stayed together for most of lap 1, with Keith Radley getting away on a small 2 man break that was soon reeled in by the bunch, at the start of lap 2 the usual suspects broke away from the bunch (O’Loughlin, Benett and Engeman) in a group of 7. Damian was away in a chasing group of 5 for a short period of time but they were hauled back by the bunch, from then on it was attack after attack.

During Lap 3 a good group of 10 jumped away which contained both Keith Walsh and Maurice, then Damian jumped across to join them.  This group worked together well for periods to stay away from the main bunch and ended up with a group sprint; Keith Walsh did well to lead out the group as he had taken a nasty fall on Lap 1.

The training is going well for the Cork man 3 day, which takes place in Kanturk on the May Bank Holiday weekend, Dungarvan will have 5 racers for the weekend, Damian, Keith Radley, Keith Walsh, Maurice Hickey and Dzintar’s Klava. The race schedule is as follows –

Sat 3rd              3 x 20 mile lap

Sun 4th             10am – 4mile TT

                        3pm – 7 x 8mile lap

Mon 5th            5 x 14 mile lap

Enda has kindly offered to do team support on the Saturday, if anybody is interested in helping out over the weekend just contact one of the team members.

NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING

The next Committee Meeting will take place at 8pm on Monday 28th April at Minnie’s Bar, Abbeyside.

SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK

The final safety tip recommended in our safety tip of the week section is.

BE SEEN ! Wear reflective clothing in conditions where light is limited, and Of course.

WEAR YOUR HELMET !

14/04/08

It's great to see another good turnout for the event, to start off I'd like to thank our timekeeper & organiser Enda who wishes he'd could be out cycling and who once he gets over his bout of illness will be back on the bike to show us how it's done.

We welcomed 6 newcomers to the series this week, Emma Walsh, Frank O'Rourke, John Seward, Michael Curran, Liam Rossitor and Tony Murray, this was Tony's second attempt to make it to the league, good to see he made it this time.

This week once again it was near perfect conditions with only a slight headwind heading out the road towards the Whitechurch turnoff, and with the coverage coming in the Bog road it then negates the tailwind.

Winner on the night was Padraig De Búrca out by just 5 seconds, was he lucky or is he in to his stride now, next was Mark Power, keeping the flag flying for the racers, in third was Benny Flynn on his new OMK bike, nearly knocking a minute off his previous weeks time, money well spent I'd say.

DUNGARVAN CYCLING CLUB RACING TEAM UPDATE

Members of the Dungarvan Cycling Club Racing team were in action in Clonmel on Sunday.

SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK

Pass carefully.

Sometimes you'll see the riders ahead starting to accelerate and you'll want to jump up to them. Be careful! Make sure you're not going to get cut off or cut someone else off. Usually, a moment's hesitation is all it takes to make the move safely.

02/04/08

Wednesday 02/04/08 was the start of the Liam Rossiter Meats Individual "Predict Your Time" Time trial.  There was a great turn out of 19 riders on what can only be called a perfect night for cycling, it was bright, dry with only a slight breeze.  After the initial conversations and trying to suss out the oppoition it was time to officially put your time down on paper, a few people were psyched out when seeing the times of others but once the first person was off ( Good man Brian) it was down to business and it was all in your own hands.

Dzintars went closest and was only out by 1 second, doesn't get much better than that, next was Damian out by 3 seconds, must be all that race training they're doing  - finally honed precision machines and all that, next then was Tony O'Mahony at 7 seconds, experience counts for a lot.

It was great to see some of the faces on bikes that we haven't seen in a while, Benny, Brett and Spider and hopefully we'll see Brian out for a few more spins.

DUNGARVAN CYCLING CLUB RACING TEAM UPDATE

Fermoy Silver Pail GP.

Four riders headed to Fermoy on Sunday for the Silver Pail GP, Damian Travers, Dzintar’s Klava, Mark Power and Maurice Hickey. It started out as typical April Weather, sun shining for the sign on and warm up, cold with a high wind for the start, sleet and hail on lap 2, and by the time the racing was finished the sun was shining again. It was a four-lap race with one long drag in it, each lap consisting of 12.5 miles

It started off with the usual hell for leather for the first lap, and then it settled down, Martin O’Loughlin as usual set the pace and was in a break of 3 from lap 2 that stayed away for the duration of the race. The rest of the bunch then had their own race, there were numerous breaks made with all Dungarvan riders involved, especially Dzintar’s and Maurice. Dzintar’s got away on a few occasions but the bunch wasn’t letting anybody get away. At the end of lap 3 a group of about 10 riders broke away and were clear when Damian jumped the gap with good group control from Maurice and Mark. These groups stayed away for the rest of the race and were fighting for the minor positions, at the end of race approx. 3 miles from home Leslie O’Donnell and Dzintar’s jumped from the group and finished in 5 & 6 respectively. Damian finished in the group about 10th with Maurice just behind. Mark won the bunch sprint at the end, he really seems to be getting back into the racing and is enjoying himself.

Once again a good showing from the Dungarvan Team who will be back to the full complement when the 2 Keith’s return from their weeks training camp in Malaga together.

ST PATRICKS DAY PARADE PRIZE FOR CLUB

The club won the best novelty float in this year’s parade and would like to thank James Twomey, Darren Tutty, Maurice Butler and friends who dressed up and joined in the fun.

SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK

Warn others of hazards.

Keep on the lookout for things that could cause problems and shout out a warning or point out the hazard.

BEGINNERS WELCOME
