Club Racing Team

It was great to see the Team colours flying over the weekend, we had three cyclists in action, Keith Walsh, Dzintars Klava and Maurice.  It was a handicapped race that was won by Martin O'Loughlin of DMCC with Keith Walsh finishing 9th in the bunch and with Dzintars and Maurice finishing in the bunch also

Next weekend sees a trip to Limerick for the Cycle Pursuit Cup with a start time of 13.00, hopefully there should be some cyclists flying the Dungarvan colours

DUNGARVAN CYCLING CLUB RACING TEAM

The Dungarvan Cycling Club Racing Team had its first day out of the 2008 season with a trip to Tralee for the Lacey cup. Taken part on the day were Keith Walsh, Maurice Hickey, Dzintar’s Klava and Enda Donnelly.

SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK

Don't look back!

Looking back causes even skilled riders to swerve, which can cause a crash. If you must look back, ask the person next to you if you can put your hand on their shoulder. That will keep you riding straight so that when you look back, you won't swerve.

BEGINNERS WELCOME

As always the Dungarvan Cycling Club is open to all new cyclists; both speed & distance are agreed on the morning of cycles. Come along with your bike (racing or mountain), helmet, food, water and just a little enthusiasm. Support and advice will be given.

NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING

The next Committee Meeting will take place at 8pm on Monday 3rd March at Minnies Bar, Abbeyside.

WEEKEND SPINS

With more cold but good cycling weather over the weekend the club had large groups out cycling all roads in the county.

Saturday saw the group head down the coast road to Tramore and home along the main N25.

Some of those out cycling were Dzintar’s Klava, Mark Power (DCC), Mark Power (DMCC), Pat O’Driscoll, Keith Walsh, Emma Walsh, Michael Keane, Keith Radley, Richie Power, Frank Browne, Colin Organ and Michael Moloney.

Weekend spins will continue to meet at John Foley’s Kilrush on Saturday and The Square on Sunday, both at 9.30am.

SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK

Don't overlap wheels.

Overlapping is putting your front wheel next to someone's rear wheel. This is asking for trouble, because if they move, they'll bump your front wheel knocking you down. Try to always be behind the bike(s) in front unless you're passing.

SAFETY FIRST

It was recommended at last week’s committee meeting that we need to highlight the importance of safety when we are out cycling. For this purpose we have added a safety tip of the week section to the notes. This week’s tip is.

Hold your line.

This means swerving as little as possible. If you need to move left or right, do so gradually after checking the area for other riders and pointing out your move to make your fellow riders aware of your intentions.
