 The Cycle will take place from October 4^th to 11^th with flights departing and returning via Shannon

The minimum fundraising target for the trek is €3,300 with a €300 non-refundable deposit to be forwarded with completed registration forms to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, National Headquarters & Training Centre, Model Farm Road, Cork.

Typical Week

 

In order to inform you of the organisation of our stages, an information meeting will be scheduled every Saturday or Sunday morning before the first ride (clients arriving during the week will receive an individual information meeting on arrival)

Each participant will be given an information folder together with a map of the island and the different cycling routes, their difficulties and their exact number of kilometres.

The risers are organised and supervised by the group leaders all carrying mobile phones to assure the security and co-ordination of the different groups. An assistance car will accompany the groups and will stop at a feeding station during the route. Our different circuits range between 50 to 130 km (30 to 80 miles)

Every afternoon the circuit for the following day will be explained and traced on a big notice board situated in the garage. You will be required to write your name in the group of your choice which is in relation to an average speed (12 to 35 km/h – 7.5 to 21.7 miles/h) and the difficulties of the route. The departure times of each group and the exact spot where the feeding station will be held will also be indicated on the information board. Departure times range between 9 and 10 am and return between 1 and 2:30 pm, every day except Wednesdays (rest day)

 

Typical Week Plan

·                    Saturday: Arrival at the hotel, bike rental and assembly. Information meeting.

·                    Sunday: Port of Andraitx circuit – 50-70 km (31-44 miles), two 5% climbs – formation

of groups

·                    Monday: Mountain Circuit – 65-80 km (40-50 miles), 3 or 4 climbs of 4 to 6%

·                    Tuesday: Sancelles circuit – 80-110km (50-68 miles), 2 climbs at 3%

·                    Wednesday: Staff day-off. Clients who wish can ride on their own, although rest is

highly recommended.

 

 

 

·                    Thursday: Col d’ Orient circuit – 80-110 km (50-69 miles), 2 climbs at 3% or 3 of 3 to

6 %

·                    Friday: Corniche circuit – 85 km (53 miles), mountainous circuit with panoramic views

·                    Saturday: Galilea circuit – 50 km (30 miles), relaxing ride, one 6% climb

 

 Circuits may change according to weeks and weather

 

 

Hotel Ponent Mar

Situated in Palmanova on the south west coast of the island of Majorca, 20 km from the airport and 15 km from Palma capital, you will find the Hotel Ponent Mar surrounded by 11.000 m2 of beautiful gardens where you can enjoy this excellent location facing the sea and just 150 metres to the nearest beach. Direct bus line to Palma every 20 minutes.
Accommodation
This magnificent 4 star hotel of modern construction has 68 apartments and 90 studios. All the rooms are spacious with heating and air conditioning, radio, telephone, satellite television, kitchenette, terrace and fully equipped bathroom with hair dryer. A laundry room with washing machine, dryer and iron is at your disposition.
Studios: One room with two single beds, sofa, dining area and kitchenette, fully equipped bathroom and terrace.
Apartments: One bedroom with two single beds. Separate room with dining area and kitchenette, sofa which can be converted into a bed, separate fully equipped bathroom and terrace.

BOARD
All clients are on a half-board basis which includes: Buffet breakfast from 8.00 to 10 a.m. and buffet evening meal (drink included) from 7.00 to 9.45 p.m. These buffets are of exceptional quality and you will find a great variety in the dishes served.
* Every Tuesday evening a special Majorcan buffet will be served which will enable you to taste all the regional products and delicacies and followed by a Flamenco Show.
*Every Friday evening Sangria will be served by our staff and private group dinner will take place at 8 p.m. followed by a typical Majorcan folklore show.

ACTIVITIES
The complex has a superb terrace facing the sea, a large outdoor swimming pool with a small pool for children and an interior swimming pool (at 27º). Pool side restaurant, bar, conference rooms, satellite television lounge, ping-pong, billiards, gymnasium and evening entertainment.
* Sauna, beauty salon and sports massage (supplement). Nearby: golf courses, tennis clubs, horse riding, mini golf, aquatic park, karting, etc...
Reservations may be made for numerous excursions and shows….

Domestic animas are not allowed in the hotel
Viajes Baleares organise excursions and sports activities, thalasso, etc. You find the programme in the FVE Office in the hotel.

Terms and Conditions

The provision of all services listed below and in the itinerary provided is in relation to the cycle challenge in Majorca from 4^th October to 11^th October 2008.

 

Flights and Hotel accommodation on a half board basis (Lunch is not included) is included over this period.

 

All transport and support staff is provided to run the cycle and tend to the overall welfare of our cyclists. There may be times when staff are not readily available to deal with queries they maybe taken up else where but we will make every effort to make this cycle as enjoyable as possible

 

While every possible effort is made to accommodate ie room sharing no guarantees can be made all factors will be taken into consideration room availability costs.

 

Should a member decide to leave the group act on there own and or decide to ignore or question the organiser from that moment on all responsibility for there safety terminates 

 

No responsibility will be taken for those who are found taking drugs drink or any other substance.

 

An information / briefing evening is mandatory for all clients before travelling to Majorca.

 

All passports must be valid for three months from the date of entry to Majorca

 

Individuals are responsible for their own health insurance but we can recommend an insurance company if needed.
