BRIAN TAKES TWO IN A ROW IN O’MAHONY CYCLES & NURSERY SUMMER SERIES

Brian Truman took another fine victory in last weeks event and now leads the competition. He sprinted away from Keith Walsh who took second and Hugh Mulhearne coming in third. Fourth and fifth points were taken by Rory Wyley and Brett Lynam respectively. Best of luck to Hugh and Rory who are participating in The Ras this week. The Summer Series competition is just two weeks old and plenty of points are still on offer so come along and take part each Wednesday.

This is a handicapped event around the 40km anticlockwise Millstreet course-open to all levels of cyclists. Cyclists are sent off at timed intervals in groups of their own standard. The aim is for all competitors to finish at around the same time. Points are awarded for 1st to 5th (from 10 to 6 respectively) with all other finishers being awarded 5 points. This makes for a close table at the end of 8 weeks. The Joe Fitzgerald Cup is presented annually to the overall winner.

The event is kindly sponsored by O’Mahony Cycles & Nursery , Abbbeyside. Tony and Siobhan have sponsored this competition since its inception in 2003, and we are grateful for their continued support.

Sign on is at 6.30 pm at The Master McGrath and the first group is away at 6.45. Helmets must be worn and cyclists must obey the rules of the road. A reminder that unlicenced cyclists may compete in up to 3 events (this is due to insurance regulations) and must then obtain a Cycling Ireland Licence-details from a Committee member.

RORY WYLEY WINS KELLY PHARMACY ROAD RACE

The Annual Joe Kelly Pharmacy Road Race was run last Sunday in wet and windy conditions.  This was the last open race in Munster before The Ras and local man Rory Wyley (Dan Morrissey CC) took 1st place beating international Ciaran Power into 2nd with Michael Fitzgerald 3rd  in the Senior 1 and 2 event.. The combined Senior 3,Veterns and Juniors saw this years success story Sam Bennett take 1st with Danny Carrol and Paul O’Donoghue 2nd and 3rd respectively. First Female finisher was Canadian visitor, Karen Watson..

The Senior 1 and 2 race was a hotly contested event with the 1st 3 place getters breaking away on the first lap and maintaining their lead for the whole race-no mean feat on this difficult undulating course.

Well done also to local Kilmacthomas man Hugh Mulhearne who took 8th in the main race as well the other local participants from Dungarvan CC: Justin Coonan, Enda Donnelly, Damien Travers and Keith Radley along with local Dan Morrissey CC rider Keith Walsh. A reminder that Justin will be running “time management” courses in preparation for the start of next year’s event!

Thanks once again to our sponsor Joe Kelly from Kelly Pharmacy, without whom this event could not take place. Thanks also go out to all involved in organising and running the race-a none too pleasant task in the pouring rain.

BRIAN TRUE TO FORM IN O’MAHONY CYCLES & NURSERY SUMMER SERIES

Brian Truman, our over-seas member, won a hotly contested sprint last Wednesday to take the 10 points and lead the competition. He was followed closely by Enda Donnelly and Keith Walsh, in second and third respectively. All the groups joined up just a few kilometres from the finish, great handicapping for the difficult first night of the competition.

This is a handicapped event around the 40km anticlockwise Millstreet course-open to all levels of cyclists. Cyclists are sent off at timed intervals in groups of their own standard. COLIN CLINCHES ROSSITER QUALITY MEATS EVENT

Davey Tobin was super accurate last Wednesday to finish within 1 second of his predicted time and win the final night of this 4 week event. Colin Organ however continued with his consistent time keeping to take the overall prize for the event. After nearly 100km of racing Colin was within 2minutes 50 seconds of his predicted time-that’s hard to beat! Thanks to our sponsor Liam Rossitor as well as all who took part. See you all tonight at the start of the Summer Series.

Wednesday 2nd May 2007

BRETT BEST ON THE NIGHT

Brett Lynam just managed to pip John Flynn and Colin Organ by 5 and 9 seconds respectively, to take 1st place at last Wednesday’s competition. Assuming that the sponsor, who has performed the most consistently of all, opts out of winning his own competition, any of the next 7 cyclists are in contention with only a few minutes separating them all. All competitors are also in the running for an individual win on the final night tonight. New participants are welcome each week so come and support the last night of this excellent competition.

Sign on is at 6.30pm sharp at John Foley’s, Kilrush and no clocks, speedometers or mobile phones are allowed to assist with time keeping. The winner each week is the competitor closest to their predicted time, not the fastest, with lowest cumulative total and the event takes place over the 24km Whitechurch circuit.
