ENDA END’S UP THE CLOSEST

Enda Donnelly was the most accurate in last Wednesday’s Rossiter Quality Meats Individual Predict your time competiton and takes the prize for week two. John Flynn was hot on his heels with the sponsor himself third. The club welcomed two new competitors-Emma Walsh who regularly participates in club spins and Natalie Shaw-Hamilton, new to the area. New participants are welcome each week and should bear in mind that prizes are awarded for the winner each week as well as the overall.  Liam now leads the competition with two more weeks to go but the overall is far from decided.

Sign on is at 6.30pm sharp at John Foley’s, Kilrush and no clocks, speedometers or mobile phones are allowed to assist with time keeping. The winner each week is the competitor closest to their predicted time, not the fastest, with lowest cumulative total and the event takes place over the 24km Whitechurch circuit.

TWO WEEKS TO GO TILL O’MAHONY CYCLES AND NURSERY SUMMER SERIES

The annual Summer Series gets underway on Wednesday the 9th May for eight weeks. It is held over the Mill Street circuit which is 40km in length. This is a handicap event with points awarded each week for the first five places and each finisher getting points also. The handicapping last year was so accurate that the final result was not decided until the last night and Davey Tobin, a newcomer, was overall winner.

Thanks to Siobhan and Tony O’Mahony for their kind sponsorship.

GOOD GROUPS FOR WEEK-END SPINS

Plenty of cyclists were out training for The Munster Challenge as well as general preparation for club events. Saturday saw two groups out-one heading to The Vee and the other to Ballyduff and Fermoy with a trip home via Tallow. Sunday’s spin took in Cappoquin, Clashmore and Old Parish..

Cyclists included Francis Barry, Siobhan O’Mahony, Padraig de Burca, Benny Flynn, Frank Browne, Frank O’Rourke, Vinny Feeny,  Keith Walsh, Colin Organ,  Davey Tobin, Enda Donnelly, Mark Power (Abbeyside)., Mark Power (Ballinroad),Keith Rossiter, Brett Lynam, Michael Dee and Richie Power.

Spins continue on Saturday’s from John Foley’s and Sunday from The Square, both at 9.30. Beginners are always welcome on a Sunday and a member will be available to travel for whatever distance and speed is appropriate. Come along with bike, helmet and some food and water and give cycling a try.

MUNSTER CHALLENGE FIVE WEEKS AWAY

Padraig’s spin on Saturdays is in preparation for the Munster Challenge which takes place on the week-end of 25th to 27th May. Most participants are now training well and it’s been reported that Liam Connors and Pierce Casey have been seen out on the road getting in some miles.

The event will raise much needed funds for St. Vincent’s District Hospital, Dungarvan.. Sponsorship Cards are now available at O’Mahony Cycles and Nursery, Wyley Sports and Rossitors Meats so collect your cards and start collecting for this worthy cause.

LOCAL’S CONTINE TO COMPETE IN OPEN RACES

Local Club members Enda Donnelly and Liam Rossiter continue to represent the club in open races around the provence and took part in another such event in Mallow last Sunday. Mark Power (Abbeyside ) and Keith Walsh-both of whom regularly train with DCC have also been representing Dan Morrissey and all are to be congratulated for competing at such a high level.

ROSSITER’S QUALITY MEATS COMPETITION GETS UNDERWAY

JUSTIN “JUST ABOUT” GETS IT RIGHT

Justin Coonan time-trialled to perfection to be within 21 seconds of his predicted time over the 24km Whitechurch circuit last Wednesday. He now leads the competition however 5 competitors are within 2 minutes and this being a four week  event means that the final result is still open.

The first night was well supported especially for an April start-no doubt helped by the good evening and further cyclists are welcome to come along tonight. Sign on is at 6.30pm sharp at John Foley’s, Kilrush and no clocks, speedometers or mobile phones are allowed to assist with time keeping. The winner each week is the competitor closest to their predicted time, not the fastest, with lowest cumulative total determining the overall winner.
