RECORD NUMBERS CYCLING FOR JANUARY

The largest number of cyclists so far this year took to the road last week-end. Saturday saw a group head to Cappoquin, Clashmore, Ardmore and Old Parish and Sunday saw a large group head up the Vee with some cyclists turning at Lismore. Out cycling were Mark Power (Ballinroad), Benny Flynn, Keith Walsh, Pádraig de Búrca, Pat O’Driscoll, Eddie Moore, Richie Power, Davy Tobin, Frank Browne, Colin Organ,  Frances Barry,  Enda Donnelly, Dane Power, Emma Walsh  Eamon O’Doherty, Brett Lynam, Michael Dee, Frank O’Rourke, Liam Rossiter, Vincent Feeney and Keith Radley. Also seen out was Vincent “Bobo” Tutty no doubt preparing for Gran Canaria in one months time. Newcomer Eddie Hickey has already become a regular travelling to Lismore and back at a solid pace.

BEGINNERS GROUP ONE YEAR ON

As previously mentioned several newcomers have already joined the group this year. It is in fact just over a year since this initiative commenced and the gains made by a number of members are enormous. Pat O’Driscoll is a great recommendation having set out for the first time this week-end 12 months ago and is now a regular member of the large group covering good distances and heading over challenging terrain such as the Vee and beyond.

There is no reason to be hesitant, as The Dungarvan Credit Union Cycling Club has set up a roster of club members to accompany anyone wishing to start cycling. All you need is a bike and some enthusiasm. A Committee member will travel with anyone interested for any distance and at a slow pace to introduce them to the pleasure of cycling. Spins will set out from The Square on Sundays at 10am, but will be separate from the usual group. Come along and enjoy the sport.

Next weeks group, Sunday 4th February, will be led by Chairman Pádraig de Búrca, so come along with bike, helmet and some food and water.
