COPY TYPE SECRETARIAL SERVICES & FRAMING STUDIO COMPETITION OFF TO A FLYING START
JUSTIN COONAN ALMOST PERFECT ON WHITECHURCH CIRCUIT
The first round of the Copy Type Secretarial Services & Framing Studio Predict Your Time Competition got off to a great start Wednesday last. A field of 19 assembled for round 1 and in blustery winds Padraig de Burca and Frank O’Rourke had riders off at 30 second intervals from 6.30pm. Closest on the night was Justin Coonan completing the circuit in 40:32 just 2 seconds slower than his predicted time. Excellent cycling you will agree! Other close times on the night were recorded by Michael Dee and Dane Power and the next 3 weeks promise an interesting competition. It was pleasing to see several newcomers last Wednesday and it is hoped they will continue through the remainder of the summer. The results were as follows:

COPY TYPE SECRETARIAL SERVICES & FRAMING STUDIO COMPETITION
DAVY TOBIN ON THE MARK
The second round of the Dungarvan Secretarial Services & Framing Studio Predict Your Time Competition saw yet another close time last Wednesday. Davy Tobin cycled to within 2 seconds of his time, a great effort . Benny Flynn and Tony Murray were also within 12 and 13 seconds on what was a sunny spring evening. Frank, Eddie and Noel had cyclists off at 30 second intervals from 6.30pm. Some very fast times were also recorded by Rory Wyley and Hugh Mulhearn both breaking the 35 minute barrier. Not too far outside the record lads! The overall results are already looking interesting with only 8 seconds between 1st and 2nd place. It was great to see a field of 23 including some newcomers. All those who havn’t shown up yet come out for the final 2 weeks and enjoy the challenge.

ENDA DONNELLY 1ST AGAIN IN O’MAHONY CYCLES & NURSERY SUMMER SERIES
Following up on his win last week , Enda Donnelly passed Padraig de Burca on the line to take his second win of the summer series on Wednesday last. A good crowd assembled despite the windy and wet weather and fast paced racing ensued. The 1st and 2nd groups combined to hold off the 3rd and 4th groups however despite that only 3 minutes separated 1st and last place at the end of 40 km. Following in Enda and Padraig were Vincent Tutty, Keith Radley and John Flynn.
The results table is now starting to get interesting but there are still plenty of weeks left to change things around. This handicap event has 6 more weeks to run. It is held over the 40km Millstreet circuit with cyclists sent off in groups, newer cyclists first followed in order of ability. Points are awarded for 1st to 5th however all who finish are guaranteed a minimum of 5 points. Sign on is at 6.30 with 1st cyclists off at 6.45 tonight. Thank you to everyone who has arrived promptly for the last two weeks. This has allowed things to run smoothly. Thanks once again to our sponsors Siobhan and Tony O’Mahony.

Brett Lynam managed 4th ahead of Enda Donnelly 5th in the next group over the line. It was great to see cyclists from other clubs entering and enjoying the competition and all are welcome.

TOUR de FRANCE
The 2006 Tour de France is now over. Our four club members returned with great stories from the Alps and no doubt all will hear the tales over the coming weeks. All four club members climbed to the top of the famous L’Alpe d’Huez through crowds of 50,000 and have photographic evidence to prove it! Reports of the various spins undertaken will follow in the coming weeks.

TIGHT AT THE TOP IN GER WYLEY SPORTS & FOOTWEAR COMPETITION
The 3rd annual Ger Wyley predict your time Team Time Trial Competition continued last week with a great turn out of seven teams once again. Competition was close, and even on a night of tricky cycling conditions 5 of the 7 teams completed the course within one minute of their predicted times. The honours were shared between Teams C and D (names below) who both finished within 27 seconds of their time, one inside and the other outside.
This competition will conclude tonight (Wed, august 30th) and what an interesting night it should prove to be as there are 5 teams capable of winning the overall prize. There is a mere 68 seconds between first and fifth places. Team B will be strong favourites, but there will be others ready to pounce. Sign on is at 6.45pm for a 7.00pm sharp start tonight at Kilrush. All cyclists must finish together and no one can be left behind. Cyclists may not wear a watch, carry a phone, or use a cycle computer. As an additional security measure, you will be checked for bluetooth! (What’s bluetooth?) Helmets MUST be worn and a club licence is required. We are grateful to Ger Wyley for his generous sponsorship of this event.

TONY MURRAY & DANE POWER LEAD IN GER WYLEY SPORTS & FOOTWEAR COMPETITION
The 3rd annual Ger Wyley predict your time Team Time Trial Competition continued last week with a great turn out of seven teams. Competition was close, but because of excellent weather conditions many teams finished well inside their predicted times over the 24km Whitechurch circuit. However, it was Team B of Tony Murray and Dane Power who prevailed on the night with an accurate performance to within 8 seconds of their prediction. Not to be outdone by the 9-second winning margin of the previous week, these lads decided to get just a little bit closer to the magic mark…and they succeeded. Indeed, given their accurate performance and the results of other teams, they now take the overall lead and will be a force to be reckoned with.
Team F (winners on Week 1) continued with a creditable 2nd place, and now trail overall by a mere 13 seconds.
Of note last week was the return of Justin Coonan and Pádraig de Búrca following a short enforced break. Neither showed any loss of form as they went around with their teams in 35:09 and 37:20 respectively. Also, Vincent Feeney made a special guest appearance at the finish line.
This competition has 2 more weeks to run and is still open to more entrants. Come along and a space will be found on a team for you. Sign on is at 6.45pm for a 7.00pm sharp start tonight at Kilrush. All cyclists must finish together and no one can be left behind. Cyclists may not wear a watch, carry a phone or use a cycle computer. Helmets must be worn and a club licence is required. Registration fee is €5.00 each for the entire competition and the winner on the night will be the team closest to its predicted time (inside or outside) with the overall winner being the team with the smallest total time-difference over the four weeks.
We are grateful to Ger Wyley for his generous sponsorship of this event.

EDDIE MOORE AND HIS TEAM TAKE THE LEAD IN GER WYLEY SPORTS & FOOTWEAR COMPETITION
The 3rd annual Ger Wyley predict your time Team Time Trial Competition started last week with a great turn out of seven teams. Competition was close and all teams finished within two minutes of their predicted time over the 24km Whitechurch circuit. It was Team F of Eddie Moore, Frank O’Rourke, Anthony Dwyer and Liam Moore who prevailed on the night with an accurate performance to within 9 seconds of their prediction. This was all the more impressive since the team included new-comer Liam Moore as well as Anthony Dwyer “returning to the cycling fold” after a great running season and Frank O’Rourke back from a break. Eddie was of course as strong as always which is what we all expect from such a “young fella!”
Team E ( the Kilmac connection) was second at 28 seconds with team D hot on their heals at 37 seconds. This competition has 3 more weeks to run and is still open to more entrants even if you can only make one or two nights space will be found on a team. Sign on is at 6.45pm for a 7.00pm sharp start tonight at Kilrush. All cyclists much finish together and no one can be left behind. Cyclists may not wear a watch, carry a phone or use a cycle computer. Helmets must be worn and a club licence is required. Registration fee is €5.00 each for the entire competition and the the winner on the night will be the team closest to its predicted time (inside or outside) with the overall winner being the team with the smallest total time-difference over the four weeks.
We are grateful to Ger Wyley for his generous sponsorship of this event.
