O’MAHONY CYCLES AND NURSERY SUMMER SERIES – LAST YEARS CHAMPIUON COLIN ORGAN TAKES VICTORY ON WEEK 7.
Week 7 of the O’Mahony Cycles & Nursery Summer Series took place last Wednesday the 25th of June. The night itself was a perfect night for racing, a dry night with a cross wind going up the Clonmel road, a headwind going through Millstreet and Modeligo and a tail wind giving some assistance coming back in the Cappoquin road.
The night started out with Heather and Sean getting a 2 minute start up the hill on the main bunch, consisting of 8 riders, these came together just at the turn off the Clonmel road and worked well together. The scratch group consisting of the remaining 7 riders had 6 minutes to make up on this group.
The first group broke apart at Modeligo school where John Horgan, Colin Organ, Tony Murray, John Flynn and Emma Walsh jumped the rest of the bunch and worked together well to stay clear. The scratch group caught first sight of the bunch at Cappagh Creamery and caught up with them just before the Master McGrath monument. Thinking they were going to fight it out for the spoils until they realised there were bodies missing. They pushed on again but failed to catch the break who crossed the line around 20 seconds ahead. Colin Organ took first, Emma 2nd, Tony 3rd and John Horgan 4th. Enda and Keith two of the leading contenders in the league sprinted up the hill to overtake John Flynn with Enda going on to take 5th position.
A great nights racing with the handicapping spot on. Well done to all involved.
Next week is the last week of this competition and it’s still all to play for. The top three riders Enda Donnelly, Keith Walsh and Sean Dwyer are all in with a chance of winning the overall title with only 4 points separating them. All riders are encouraged to come along on the last night for what should be an excellent finish to the competition.

DUNGARVAN CYCLING CLUB RACING TEAM UPDATE
Enda Donnelly was the lone racer on duty last weekend when he travelled to Kerry to compete in the Currow Open combined race. This race consisted of 3 laps of a 20K circuit. Enda must be infamous down those parts now, as he had to compete under the alias of Ed Kelly. On lap 2 Enda broke clear with Kevin Shelly and Sean McIllroy both from Dan Morrissey CC. Before the end of lap 2, Andre Engeman, Tom Shanahan and Laurent Dumoulin had crossed over to join this trio. After some hard racing on lap 3 Shanahan, Engemann and Dumoulin broke clear to finish in that order. Enda went on to win the sprint for fourth spot overall. Good to see Enda riding strong again after a very frustrating spring and early summer.
